A haze invades my roaming sight,              Flames of love do melt my heart,              Waves of longing drown my soul,      When I hear that enchanting call,

When I think of my Palestine,                That once was mine, and will be mine

You are the moon that clears my way,        The shining blaze that lights my day,           The "fedayeen"* blood, the martyrs` soil,    The sacred rays that shroud my soul,           The seed of love, the fount of life,                The stream of hope for which I strife.

I envy the winds that kiss your door,

The violent waves embrace your shore,

The gentle breeze that lulls your wounds, The low pale clouds that kiss your mounds,

The tranquil river,the smiling sea,

I envy the mortal life in thee.

When I think of my beloved land,

That fate has stolen from my hand,

Why, I wonder; why O god!

The flower buds tremble, the wailing wombs,

The singing corpses, the laughing tombs,

Wake you devils, wake you gods,

Fill with grief the morning skies..
